Seeing Double
Gail Myles was in a car accident in November 2018, resulting in a concussion along with some other minor injuries.
Even though Gail’s physicians were able to treat some of her physical injuries; her concussion and vision issues persisted, and those problems heavily interfered with her daily life.
“Some of the initial symptoms were issues with reading and writing and double vision,” she told us in her initial assessment “I’d use a lot of spreadsheets at work and I found it almost impossible to follow along with them. I often missed instructions and important elements of work tasks and ended up making some mistakes. From a day-to-day perspective, I found it difficult being out in busy places. Going to the grocery store, going to the mall was completely overwhelming for me. I was really frustrated and I knew there had to be someone who could help me”.
Seeking Help
After hearing about the Vision Development Centre through an online concussion group, Gail decided to reach out and see what we could do to help. After the initial assessment with Gail, we found her tracking was off when trying to read and that she had a slight eye turn. We quickly developed a treatment plan in response and began vision therapy. Our plan for Gail included:
It was a long journey, but Gail was willing to do the work.
A Positive Outlook
Over time Gail finally started to feel like she was getting somewhere. “I felt like I found someone who understood what I was going through”, “I’m getting emotional thinking about how it used to be,” Gail says. “My life is so much better now because of Dr. Hutchens and her team, I am so so thankful that I met them”
And we’re so happy to have met you too, Gail.

"Since Vision Therapy, Andrew is a more confident and happier child. Andrew can read any book that has smaller print. Andrew feels successful at school and at home. Andrew reads to us every night (chapter books) and really enjoys reading...Vision Therapy is one of the best decisions we have ever made for our child."
" I started Vision Therapy following a concussion. I was struggling visually for more than a year, and was unable to find traditional help from my family doctor and Ophthalmologist. I can read again, I can work more efficiently, I’m happier and so much more confident."
"Since the completion of his program, his grades have sky-rocketed, he reads for long periods of time and never has headaches anymore.
